The book, which exemplifies the phases of natural stone from quarry to construction with references from history and contemporary practices, and will guide their correct use, was prepared simultaneously in two languages, German and Turkish. The books we will publish will deal with natural stones sometimes with their technical and sometimes with their cultural extents. Bringing books in different languages into Turkish is also among our goals.”
‘The Natural Stone Facades’ book aims to show the variety of applications of a natural stone as a material and to create a platform for discussion to guide its use in the right place and in the right way. At the same time, it is aimed to ease the process by pointing out the importance of cooperation between the investor (employer), the architect and the stone supplier. This cooperation has a great importance especially in the initial stages of planning.
This book; consists of five main sections covering current design trends and technologies in natural stone facade design, references and basic information from the history of architecture, design methods, a comprehensive and original analysis of built structures and their facades, the adventure of natural stones from block to construction, and main stone types.
Introduction to the Subject and New Trends
In the “Introduction”, Hermann Graser takes the reader on a broad tour of the horizon, from the current advantages of natural stone as a building material to its current applications, from traditional construction techniques to contemporary manufacturing methods. Under this title, the advantages and disadvantages of the main facade construction types are introduced by associating them with the building construction methods, while the use of different construction types together in the same project is explained with examples.
Theory and Fundamentals
Under the title of “Theory and Fundamentals”, Philipp Meuser, by taking the thousands of years of stone as a building material into consideration, he also seeks answer to his question of “Does contemporary architecture need to break its bond with this traditional material?” and draws a conclusion that the bond is should not be broken.
Designs with Natural Stones
Under the title of “Designs with Natural Stones”, Tobias Nöfer; As a continuation of the subject, closely examines the details between the subbasement and the roof eaves, such as molding, lesene and pilaster, column and pillaradornment and surface, corner and joint, both in terms of classical style language and plasticity in shaping.
Constructions and Facades
This section includes projects built in the last 20 years, as well as additional structures, renovations, repairs and reconstructions. The project range, which extends from a two-storey gable roof house to multi-storey residences, includes different typologies such as residences offices, hotels, schools and museums built with a reinforced concrete framed building system. Different facade types such as masonry walls, facade front walls, ventilated stone clad facades or self-supporting solid elements are exemplified in the selected projects. While each project is introduced with its main lines, almost from the urban planning scale to the joint details, with texts, photographs and photograph captions, the relationship between design and material is also examined. In terms of design approaches, the projects are examined by classifying them as projects that have an impressive position in terms of relief effect, emphasis on massiveness, scale and positioning from afar, their original relations with the environment, and the use of light and shadow effect.
Extraction and Processing of Natural Stones and Their Types
In the last part of the book, Graser and Krüger explain the processes of natural stone from quarry to cladding and the main natural stone types with the help of photographs.
The book ends with sample implementation plans. It is written in a language that even non-architect readers can easily understand with the help of texts accompanied by nearly 1,000 photographs and technical detail drawings. Although the book focuses on the use of natural stone on the facade, it also informs the reader in detail about natural stones.

We are at the “Marmomac 2022 International Exhibition of Stone Design and Technology”, which will be held for the 56th time in Verona, Italy, between 27 – 30 September 2022! You can visit us at Hall 9 Stand D8.
We would like to thank all our guests who were with us on our special night, celebrating our 25th anniversary. We wish to be together in our future celebrations.
The group exhibition “Viewed Up to Seen”, consisting of the works of two young artists, Sırma Şiir Okan and Hatice Akyüz, who is working with concepts such as collective life, urbanization and migration. The show was opened to the visitors until 5 November 2020 at Stoneline Art Gallery.
The show gathers around different techniques such as photography, painting, printing. Hatice Akyüz and Sırma Şiir Okan brings new perspectives on the social life’s personal and collective
structure. In Hatice Akyüz’s works, she works with the ruins in the city that, there is not much left except the absence of its once inhabitants; on a plane blended with space, time, energy and memory
they come across. Through photographs and engravings; The “house”, which is a private place, collapsed in the political order, By being open to “others”, it is included in the public sphere.
In Sirma Şiir Okan’s works, the spatiality of the audience and the canvas or paper is dealt with by establishing a relationship between its spatiality.
It is detached from its original spaces and pasted on an artificial plane, beetles deprived of their belonging collectively and individually. The artist highlights concepts such as belonging and immigration and creates new space for alternative readings.
As Stoneline family, we aspired to organize a contest in which students from various disciplines work together to produce in the field of natural stone, an area which we have internationally served more than 20 years. The theme we have designated, was the design of the fair stand on which the Stoneline products would be exhibited. With this contest, we aimed to encourage the students of interior design and industrial product design, to think on natural stone and create innovate ideas.
Our contest which we have designed for architecture, interior design and industrial product design students to create innovative and creative ideas about natural stone and marble, to make them familiar with natural a material which they will use in their desings, to empower succesfull and creative young designers by improving their perspective on the natural stone and to ensure the creation of original and contemporary design with contest spirit, has been completed.
Attention given to the contest is the best evidence to prove that we have reached our goal. 149 students from 43 universities have participated to the contest. As a result of the evaluation conducted by the jury, in addition to the first three prizes, five projects have been awarded with Equivalent Mention Award. We have happily observed that, within the scope of the contest; students of architecture, interior design and industrial product desing have created creative and innovative ideas, have embraced the importance of working with young people from different profiles and relationship between the disciplines. Every type of building material in the world, has a shelf life. Natural stone however, is one of the building materials which have the longest shelf life, with correct application and preservation. We hope that, with this contest, we have been able to help young people to familiarize themselves with the natural stone which is one of the materials they will use in their future designs and to explore the value which this material coming from the nature can add to architecture and the possibilities it can provide. As an establishment, we have always emphasized on enouring the sucessfull and creative young designers.
With this contest, we are proud that we we will able to help create a platform to further create original and contemporary designs. We would like to thank the esteemed lecturers of universities which always provided their help, participant students and Members of the Elective Council for their interest in this contest which we plan to annualize.
There are two important criteria when selecting stones for our collection: research and communication.
The first step in research stage is to identify preferences of each country in respect of color, finish, patterns and consumer behaviors.
At this stage, we gather information by carefully scanning websites, social media platforms, and magazines and sectoral reports of design, architecture and decoration in each country. The research results are analyzed after all information from regular customer visits and meetings is combined. The colors, surface shapes and patterns that are identified as a result of such work are then compared with the selections in our natural stone quarries. Finally, we contact the eligible quarries and acquire relevant stones to our collection.
We know very well how tiny details make huge differences in projects and it’s our objective to present the best state of stone to all of our customers. For this reason, slab quality control starts with placing the block on the gangsaw.
We carefully monitor all actions from cutting the block to turn it into a slab to make sure that slabs enter the quality control process at their best shape.
The size, thickness, pattern, surface finish, smoothness and many other criteria are checked during quality control which is followed by filling the quality control form. Then we take photos of each slab. In case of stones with frequent pattern variations, we support photos with videos. Then, all photos and videos are shared with the customer. The purpose here is to reflect the status of slabs to the customer – whether a distributor or a project owner. In this way, customers are assured whether slabs will fit to the project and the collection or not.
The slabs that pass quality control (inspection) successfully and approved by the customer are then bundled and dispatched. During loading of the bundles, all actions are again recorded with photos and reported to the customer.
You can preserve the beauty of the marble surfaces you use in your living spaces for many years by paying attention to the issues we have compiled for you below.
If you buy your table, coffee table and counter style marble products directly from the manufacturer, request surface protection before they come to you. When this process is done with the right material and the right application, it will provide protection against stains on marble surfaces. We recommend repeating the application every one or two years, depending on usage. When cleaning, use soft-textured materials such as micro-fibers instead of hard-textured materials. Instead of cleaning materials containing chemicals, choose neutral cleaners pH7, diluted soap bar and lukewarm water. Dry the surface with a soft cloth after cleaning. Do not try products from other materials (tiles, ceramics, etc.) to solve a problem on the surface. If possible, seek advice from your manufacturer.
The first step of presenting the best shape of a stone to our customers is the selection of block. And the most important part of block selection is to have customer’s perspective. Looking at the stone from the perspective of the customer requires efficient interaction with customers. Customer visits and meetings, customer’s website and social media posts give nice clues about the expectations of the customer. We select blocks based on such data by considering certain criteria such as the structure, color, pattern and machinability of the block – all determined by our expert engineer – and then take photos of the block from various angles and share them with the sales team and production manager. Sales team share their thoughts with the customer about the eligibility of the stone for the project while production manager offers his ideas about the final shape of the stone following production. Block is purchased and dispatched to the factory only after all these elements are agreed upon between the parties.
All actions are taken in order to meet and even go beyond customer expectations as we do in all other processes under the umbrella of Stoneline when selecting blocks. As a result, the customer buys a product that is specially selected and produced.

Ancient cities, monuments, sculptures… When evaluated from this point of view, natural stones bear the VALUE OF DOCUMENTARY QUALITY by witnessing the development of the world and therefore humanity.
IT IS EASY TO PROVIDE. Countries and regions have local natural stones. Natural stone is almost ready in nature to be used as a building material. The local stones used in the architecture and the details of the combination of this material form the design language and determine the LOCAL ARCHITECTURAL CHARACTER OF the region where it is built.
Natural stones DO NOT LOSE ITS BEAUTY AS OLD, they can be restored or simply regain their former beauty after proper cleaning.
It has become the indicator of both beauty, magnificence and elegance with its SHAPABLE STRUCTURE in all areas of use, from monumental works and historical buildings to today’s residences and works of art.
Natural stone has countless visual and physical VARIETIES depending on the purpose of use and design, and DIFFERENT TEXTURES can be obtained with the surface treatments applied on it.
