London’s leading names in architecture, interior design and construction gathered on 14 May to celebrate the opening of the new flagship showroom of Stoneline & Palezzo. Located at 132 Wigmore Street, the new showroom is set to become far more than a retail destination — positioning itself as a leading natural stone specification and experience centre in London for the UK design community.

Hosted by Stoneline & Palezzo, the exclusive black-tie event welcomed some of London’s most respected architects, interior designers, contractors, developers and members of the design press.

The evening began at the historic 60 Great Queen Street, where guests were welcomed with an elegant drinks reception accompanied by violinist Arda Karakaya and cellist Anna White.

Surrounded by marble columns, travertine flooring and granite detailing, attendees experienced an atmosphere that reflected the timeless sophistication of natural stone within contemporary architecture and luxury interior design.

Dialogue with Stone: On Timeless Design with Habif Architecture

As part of our “Dialogue with Stone” series—where natural stone is explored not just as a material but as a medium of expression—we were pleased to host Habif Architecture at our Istanbul showroom.

Since 2005, Habif Architecture has been producing architectural and interior design projects with a focus on timelessness, functionality, and high design value. Winners Announced for the Palezzo Student Pattern Design Competition

The Palezzo Student Pattern Design Competition, organized by Stoneline, has concluded. The competition attracted strong interest from students of architecture, interior architecture, landscape architecture, and fine arts across Türkiye and Northern Cyprus. Through their original designs created with natural stone, young designers showcased their creativity and innovative perspectives.

Within the scope of the competition, participants were asked to design original compositions for Palezzo, Stoneline’s artisanal palladian-terrazzo collection. The surface designs—created by combining various natural stone pieces, aggregates, and binding materials—explored the aesthetic potential of the material through creative and contemporary interpretations.

In the first phase of the two-stage competition, selected designs were determined through jury evaluation. In the second phase, these designs were further developed in a workshop environment and carried into the prototype production process.

AURA Istanbul at Our Ayazağa Showroom: A Dialogue with Stone

Cities expand, populations grow, and spaces transform…
Yet in the midst of this rapid change, some things have remained quietly in place for thousands of years.

AURA Istanbul’s visit to our Ayazağa showroom was a powerful reflection of the desire to reconnect with this silent material—
to pause, to listen, and to enter into a renewed dialogue with stone.

In the noise of modern life, this meeting reminded us of something we often forget:
To understand the material, to speak to it, to listen to it.

As Cities Grow More Complex…

Today’s urban landscapes are more chaotic, denser, and layered than ever before. Understanding this complexity requires more than a single disciplinary voice. That’s exactly why AURA Istanbul exists:

To build a new shared language between architecture, urbanism, landscape, and social dynamics.

During the showroom tour, participants from AURA Istanbul didn’t just see natural stone as a material.
They read:

  • the rhythm of the city in its veins,
  • the questions of architecture in its shadows,

Palezzo Design Student Pattern Competition

Subject of the Competition

The subject of the competition is the design of a palladian-type terrazzo composition.
The theme is open.

What is Palezzo?

We have named our artisanal palladian-style terrazzo creations “Palezzo.”
Inspired by the palladian flooring trend that was popular in Europe and around the world during the 1960s, we reinterpret this tradition with a contemporary approach, prioritizing the use of surplus and reclaimed stones.
We produce Palezzo either as precast slabs or through in-situ casting.

In in-situ casting, stones are arranged directly on the floor surface, over which an epoxy-based mixture is poured and then polished. This method allows the creation of seamless surfaces of up to 40 m².
If the terrazzo is used for wall cladding instead of flooring, or if in-situ casting is not feasible, the stones are arranged into a mold, filled with the mixture, and cast into slabs, which are later cut to size and installed like natural stone panels.

The maximum mold (slab) size is 120 x 240 cm.

Components of Palezzo:

  • Epoxy-based matrix:
    Known as the epoxy matrix, this mixture defines the background color of the Palezzo surface. The color can be selected from any standard color chart (RAL, NCS, etc.).
  • Aggregate:
    Small stone fragments ranging in size from 0.7 mm to 12 mm.
    The choice of aggregate affects the overall color perception and should be made carefully.
  • Stone pieces:
    The core compositional elements in palladian-type terrazzo.
    The stones may be cut precisely according to the design or broken by hand or with tools (e.g., hammer, guillotine) to achieve more organic forms.

Objective of the Competition

  • The aim of this competition, organized by Stoneline, is to develop new compositions for our artisanal Palladian-type terrazzo collection, known as Palezzo.
  • Prototypes will be produced for the works selected for the second stage.

Competition Type and Format

  • This is a concept competition for students, organized by Stoneline – Palezzo.
  • Participation is free of charge.

Competition Process

  • We expect participants to propose a new, original composition that has not been previously realized for Palezzo.
  • Since the final product will be customizable for clients such as architects or designers, participants are encouraged to imagine variations in background (epoxy matrix) color, stone types and colors, and aggregates. Each design will thus be unique.Designs selected for the second stage will undergo dry-lay prototyping in our Ayazağa showroom workshop, where designers will arrange their stone compositions into molds themselves.

Expectations for Stage 1:

  • Design a 50×50 cm palezzo composition. (An A1-sized poster presentation is required; it may be hand-drawn, collage or digitally printed.)
  • The selection of stones (stone type and/or colour-size-shape) must be specified in the 1:1 scale drawing to be made on the poster, and the composition must be coloured to match reality.
  • The epoxy base colour must be selected. The RAL or NCS code must be specified.
  • ggregate selection is optional at this stage and can be left for Stage 2.

Workshop Activities in Stage 2:

  • Arranging pre-cut or workshop-broken stones into molds (dry-lay process).
  • Fixing stones in the mold to prevent shifting during casting.
  • Selecting aggregates (optional; initial selections can be revised).
  • Determining aggregate ratios to finalize the preparation for casting.

Materials to be Used:

  1. Stone Selection: Participants must select stones from the following list (one or multiple):
  • Marmara (gray)
  • Dolomite (white)
  • Uşak green
  • Yellow travertine
  • Beige travertine
  • Pink travertine
  • Greige
  • Salvadori
  • Lilac

Stone sizes may range from 2-20 cm.

If broken stones are used in the design, they will be broken during the workshop, so there may be slight differences from the original design. The main concept must be maintained.

  1. Epoxy Matrix Mixture: The epoxy matrix color chosen by the participant will be prepared in advance (must be selected from the RAL or NCS chart).
  2. Aggregate (small stone pieces) Options:
  • White: 1-6 mm (1 mm, 1-3 mm, or 3-6 mm)
  • Red: 1-6 mm (1 mm, 1-3 mm, or 3-6 mm)
  • Black: 1-4 mm (1 mm or 2-4 mm)
  • Yellow onyx: 1-6 mm (1 mm, 1-3 mm, or 3-6 mm)
  • Green: 1-6 mm (1 mm, 1-3 mm, or 3-6 mm)

Participation Requirements

Important Note:

  • Entries submitted during the first announcement period of the competition (originally announced on March 29, 2025) will remain valid after postponement.
  • Participants who were students at that time but have since graduated will still be eligible for evaluation.
  • The competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in Fine Arts, Interior Architecture, or Architecture departments at universities affiliated with the Council of Higher Education in Turkey or KKTC.
  • Individual participation is required (no group entries).
  • Participants must be under 25 years old and provide an official student certificate for the 2025–2026 academic year.
  • Jury members, advisors, alternates, rapporteurs, and direct relatives of organizers cannot participate.
  • Each participant may submit only one (1) composition.
  • All submissions must be delivered within the deadlines and under the specified conditions.
  • Entries must be original and previously unpublished/unrealized. If plagiarism or prior production is detected and confirmed by a qualified jury majority, the design will be disqualified, and any awarded prize must be returned.
  • Any identifying marks (name, initials, etc.) on the presentation board will result in disqualification.

Submission Format:

  • The composition must be presented on one (1) A1 (84 x 59.4 cm) vertically oriented board.
  • Explanations and notes must appear on the same board.
  • A five-digit code must be written in the upper right corner.
  • The composition must be drawn at 1:1 scale within a 50×50 cm layout.

Submission Requirements:

  • Sealed identity envelope (labeled only with the code)
  • One (1) A1 poster (print, collage, or hand-drawing)
  • USB drive containing digital copies of the presentation board and registration forms

Rules:

  • Participants grant Stoneline the usage rights for their submitted compositions.
  • Participants may not contact jury members or rapporteurs during the competition.
    All inquiries must be sent via email to palezzo@stoneline.com.tr with the subject line “Palezzo Design Competition” within the designated Q&A period.
  • By submitting an entry, participants agree to the terms of the specification, including data sharing and contact communication.
  • Entries that violate any rule, reveal participant identity, are incomplete, or submitted after the deadline will be excluded by jury decision.

Future Architects at Stoneline: A Morning of Material, Technology and Inspiration

Recently, Stoneline’s showroom and production facilities welcomed some of the brightest young minds from the world of architecture. As part of the ARC255 Building Technologies and Materials – I: Construction Methods and Materiality course, a group of 37 students visited us to explore building technologies and materiality through the lens of natural stone.

Because architecture is not only about designing; it is about understanding the material.

Material Is More Than a Surface

Natural stone is often perceived as merely an aesthetic layer in projects. However, the real story runs much deeper. Together with the students, we examined the full journey of a stone—from quarry extraction to final application in architectural projects:

  • Block selection criteria
  • Cutting and processing technologies
  • Surface finish alternatives
  • Integration with structural systems
  • Interior and exterior performance criteria

We discussed the intersection where a material’s technical capacity meets its design potential. Because good architecture is not about romanticizing materials—it is about reading them correctly.

Showroom Experience: Learning by Touch

From our collection of over 500 natural stones, selected samples were examined to analyze how color, texture, and veining influence spatial perception. Students did not simply listen; they touched surfaces, observed different finishes under varying light conditions, and experienced firsthand how stone interacts with space.

Together, we rediscovered that natural stone is not static—it is a living material.

An International Perspective

To ensure active participation of international students, our presentations were delivered with English support. We also shared insights into how natural stone is positioned in global projects, highlighting Stoneline’s presence in London, Austria, and Azerbaijan.

Because material knowledge may begin locally, but it gains value on a global scale.

Bridging Academia and Industry

At Stoneline, we see education and knowledge-sharing not merely as social responsibility, but as an investment in the future of our industry. Early engagement with materials transforms the design instincts of young architects.

Dialogue with Stone: The True Experience Lies Not in Form, but in Meaning.

As part of our ‘Dialogue with Stone’ events held at our new showroom, we welcomed the Autoban Project team, internationally recognised for their principle of ‘Form, Function, Experience’.

For us, our ‘Dialogue with Stone’ events are not merely gatherings; they become sincere interactions with nature, materials, and design.

The evening began with cocktails and snacks, followed by an impressive natural stone presentation that delicately conveyed everything from the origins of natural stones to their texture, colour depth, and relationship with light.

Following this presentation, which invited viewers to touch not just a surface but the very soul of the stone, our showroom tour commenced, featuring over 600 varieties of natural stone. Our guests experienced the stones they had discovered in the presentation in a physical space, closely observing their textures, colour transitions, and unique relationship with light.

Depending on design preferences and stone thickness, we now also produce epoxy terrazzo with the Stoneline difference. We then continued with the ‘Palezzo’ workshop, born from an artisan approach that combines classic terrazzo aesthetics with the Palladian tradition.

Our guests worked on their own design concepts in the workshop using natural stone and other materials.

Each stone took on a new form when touched by hand — nature’s transformative power was reborn through the creative touch of design.

Autoban’s visionary design approach and Stoneline’s passion for natural stone spoke the same language on this special evening.

Because we at Stoneline know that the true experience lies not in form, but in meaning.

Team Project Visits Stoneline

Team Project, which develops projects in the field of architecture and interior design on many different scales, such as residential, office, hotel and shopping centres, visited our Stoneline Ayazağa showroom recently.

This visit, which brought together creative visions, aesthetic approaches and professional project management experience with stone, became an inspiring encounter at the intersection of design and natural materials.

The team, which prioritises quality and an innovative approach in every detail, examined our Stoneline Natural Stone Collection closely and gained information about new materials that will add value to their projects.

During the visit;

The visit began with Stoneline’s carefully curated natural stone presentations. The team had the opportunity to discover the unique colours, textures, and stories behind different stones. For us, it was equally rewarding to showcase how natural stone can make a real difference in architecture and interior design.

Palezzo Workshop: Where Stone Meets Creativity

After the presentations came the most enjoyable part: the Palezzo Workshop. Here, the team had the chance to work directly with stone and create their own designs. Rather than simply observing, the designers became part of a creative process—turning the experience into an inspiring journey.

The day concluded with a tour of the Stoneline showroom, offering a closer look at our different slabs and collections. The Arketipo Design team experienced both the aesthetic and functional aspects of natural stone first-hand.

An Inspiring Day with the Architects of the Future

At Stoneline, we value not only natural stones, but also the sharing of inspiration, knowledge, and experience. With this vision, we were delighted to welcome architecture students from various cities across Turkey to our showroom as part of the annual scholarship program organized by İSMD (Istanbul Independent Architects Association).

Inspiration is Born from Knowledge

Our event began with a presentation by Stoneline experts tailored to the students. In this session, we emphasized that natural stone is not just a building material, but also a powerful design element. We explored the journey of stone from its origin to its role in a project, covering everything from technical details to implementation processes. The curiosity and interest of the students were truly inspiring to us.

A Showroom Journey: Where Natural Stone Meets Architecture

Following the presentation, we toured the showroom together. The unique textures, color transitions, and surface details of each natural stone transformed them into architectural experiences. The young architects had the chance to explore Stoneline’s extensive stone collection in person, observing firsthand the aesthetic relationship between stone and space.

Palezzo Workshop: A Moment Where Creativity Meets Stone

The final—and perhaps most creative—part of the day was the Palezzo Workshop. Here, students worked directly with stones, freely expressing their own perspectives. They experienced how design comes to life not just on a screen or paper, but through a living material like stone.

Sharing Inspiration

Being in the same space with the architects of the future, exchanging ideas, and getting to know them was a powerful source of inspiration for us. The energy, questions, and creativity of these young minds continue to illuminate our vision at Stoneline.

A Publishing House Focused on Natural Stones

Publishing house focused on natural stones.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Stoneline—one of Turkey’s leading brands in the natural stone industry, which has supported education, culture, and the arts since its establishment—has added a new initiative to its efforts with a publishing house focused on this field.

Structured as part of Stoneline’s social responsibility approach, the goal of Stoneline Publications is to enrich the literature with reference books prepared in the field of natural stone and to support academic research in this area. We listened to Stoneline Corporate Communications Manager Özlem Karma and Stoneline Publications Editor-in-Chief Gülçin İpek to learn more about the story of this new publishing house, which has already placed its first two books on the shelves.

Maison Française: As a company operating in the field of natural stone, how did the idea of establishing a publishing house in this area develop?


Özlem Karma: At Stoneline, we view increasing efforts in education, culture, and the arts as a vital path to progress, and we believe that advancement in these areas plays a significant role in the development of countries and societies. With this strong belief, we’ve long supported a variety of corporate communication activities and cultural projects, and now we’ve reinforced our commitment through publishing. Our aim is to share our accumulated knowledge and experience in this field with all interested parties through a publishing platform.


Our first publications were prepared in collaboration with AURA-Istanbul Architecture and Urban Studies Academy and the Architects’ Association 1927. We also have close relationships with architecture faculties at universities. The lack of Turkish-language resources that offer a deeper understanding of natural stone was a notable gap, and we set out to fill it. We aim to make Stoneline Publications a hub where books focused on natural stone are gathered and made accessible.

MF: The publishing house has released its first two books. Could you tell us about the content and goals of your publications?


Gülçin İpek: There are relatively few publications in architectural publishing that focus on materials, and this is especially true for natural stone. We envisioned Stoneline Publications as a publishing house specializing in natural stone. Our goal is to contribute to the enrichment of the literature with publications that focus on natural stone in the fields of architecture, interior design, culture, art, design, archaeology, and geology, and to support both national and international academic research in these areas. Our target audience includes architects, restoration specialists, designers, academics, industry professionals, and anyone interested in architectural history and building culture.
We’ve designed publications with technical content for architects. Our first book, “Natural Stone Facades,” which features over 100 projects for architects, has already been published. In the coming period, we plan to release books that examine historical natural stone details starting from our own country. Creating archival-quality works for enthusiasts is one of our main goals.


The books we plan to publish will not be limited to architecture. We also aim to expand into fields such as landscape architecture, art history, geology, and archaeology. The books we publish will be valuable resources for anyone interested in natural stone and eager to contribute to architectural and building culture.
