The group exhibition “Viewed Up to Seen”, consisting of the works of two young artists, Sırma Şiir Okan and Hatice Akyüz, who is working with concepts such as collective life, urbanization and migration. The show was opened to the visitors until 5 November 2020 at Stoneline Art Gallery.

The show gathers around  different techniques such as photography, painting, printing. Hatice Akyüz and Sırma Şiir Okan brings new perspectives on the social life’s personal and collective

structure. In Hatice Akyüz’s works, she works with  the ruins in the city that, there is not much left except the absence of its once inhabitants; on a plane blended with space, time, energy and memory

they come across. Through photographs and engravings; The “house”, which is a private place, collapsed in the political order, By being open to “others”, it is included in the public sphere.

In Sirma Şiir Okan’s works, the spatiality of the audience and the canvas or paper is dealt with by establishing a relationship between its spatiality.

It is detached from its original spaces and pasted on an artificial plane, beetles deprived of their belonging collectively and individually. The artist highlights concepts such as belonging and immigration and

creates new space for alternative readings.

Hatice Akyüz

 

1993, İstanbul

 

She graduated from Marmara University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Painting in 2016.She is continuing study her master degree at the same university. She has worked as a lecturer in fields such as art and design, art therapy in various institutions, and now works as a visual arts teacher in a private institution. She currently continues her artistic practice in Istanbul. In the artist’s works, the main theme concept is focused on “home” and “inside-outside”. The artist deals with the unity of the contrasts in the concept of ambivalence through the interior and exterior coexistence of spaces. By identifying its own past with these layered spaces, it shows the representation of a psychological unity through the spaces and the states they are in. The power of the representation language of photography through archive and archive creation has also made photography a tool of its own production by freezing and capturing the moment. Apart from photography, she continues to produce techniques like printing , video and painting.

Sırma Şiir Okan

 

1990, İstanbul

 

In 2016, she graduated from Marmara University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Painting. During the 2013-2014 undergraduate education period, she studied for one year in the Department of Image Imprimée (Print image) at the École Nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (ENSAD) in Paris, with the Erasmus program. After graduation, she worked as an Art Director in design studios. She continues her practice in Istanbul. In her works, she constructs the similarity between the world of insects and the world of humans by associating the chaotic relationships in the micro-cosmos with the chaos that exists in human life.
